Woman transforms cabinet into shoe storage unit using wallpaper samples

A lot of people have been using lockdown to get to grips with some much-needed DIY.

Whether it’s decluttering, upcycling or reorganising, lockdown has given us more time to focus on the home improvement projects that have been sat on the ‘to-do’ list for a while.

One savvy homeowner has done just that – as she spent some time transforming a plain wooden cabinet into a stylish shoe storage solution.

But, while it looks like it could have been an expensive experiment, the project didn’t break the bank.

The thrifty woman decided to upgrade her plain wooden cabinet with some free wallpaper samples – which she picked up from B&Q.

She simply stuck the four different jazzy patterns to the front of each drawer, using PVA glue.

Sharing her efforts in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, she wrote: ‘Lock down DIY, decided to transform a boring shoe cabinet.’

The homeowner explained the only money she spent was on the affordable IKEA cabinet.

Naturally, it wasn’t long before her incredible handiwork caught the attention of other group members, with many commenting on her beautiful piece of furniture.

One replied: ‘That looks really good.’

While another added: ‘Looks fabulous! What a transformation.’

But this isn’t the only project DIY fans have loved recently.

Earlier this month, a 28-year-old woman transformed her lifeless balcony into an outdoor sanctuary by adding a generous amount of fairy lights – even if she did almost fall off in an attempt to hang them.

Similarly, a woman transformed a cupboard under the stairs into a luxury bedroom for her three-year-old dog, Winston. The project cost just £35.95 in total, which included new adhesive floor tiles for £27, a £4.95 cushion and £4 in delivery costs.
